The Vampire Diaries is a supernatural drama television series that premiered on The CW in 2009. Based on the popular book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, the show follows the story of Elena Gilbert, a teenage girl who is caught in a love triangle between two vampire brothers.
The Vampire Diaries has become one of the most popular shows on The CW and has spawned numerous spin-offs, including The Originals, Legacies, and The Vampire Diaries: The Return. Fans of the show have been able to follow the characters on their journeys for over a decade, falling in love with the characters and their stories. If you're looking for a supernatural drama with lots of romance, action, and suspense, then The Vampire Diaries is a great choice.
That said, should you watch the show? Well, of course! Here's why you should watch the series:
This show is a real treat for viewers. It moves quickly, introducing a story and then telling it at a rapid pace while also introducing several other storylines to keep it interesting. It packs more plot in one-and-a-half seasons than some shows manage in their entire run. In the season two opener, there was finger-chopping, knifing, evil doppelgangers, possible werewolves, vampires, and a neck-snapping that miraculously brought someone back to life. Plus, they somehow managed to include plenty of conversations about feelings. It's an impressive feat, as the writers manage to pull off these ambitious plots without rushing anything or leaving any storyline behind.
The Vampire Diaries is unique in its ability to keep viewers enthralled with its cliffhanger endings. Each episode starts with an intriguing teaser before ending with an unexpected twist that hooks us in and draws us back for more. Additionally, these cliffhangers are more than just small issues. They'll no doubt leave you shocked and stunned, blurting out "Oh my goodness" instinctively.
The Vampire Diaries has managed to keep viewers engaged by gradually introducing new characters and growing the already existing ones. They've taken a substantial risk in bringing in werewolves, but having a character that has been around since the beginning become the main focus of that story, helps to make it seem less unnecessary. Additionally, turning an existing character into a vampire has been a great move to keep fans invested. It's the show's creative interpretation of the source material that has made it so successful, something that True Blood had failed to do in its third season. These werewolves aren't villains, at least not yet.
The Vampire Diaries is not a show that shies away from showing the dark side of characters. The series' main character, Damon, is a perfect example of this. When he was first introduced in the pilot, he was depicted as a ruthless killer with no remorse. Over time, his character has been given more complexity, and he has been portrayed as more of a "good guy," but his darkness remains. Other characters, including the heroine's love interest, Stefan, and the villain Katherine, also demonstrate a maliciousness that is unafraid to be explored. Katherine's killing of a teenager on the dance floor of a party is a perfect example of the show's willingness to show the depths of evil its characters can reach.
The Vampire Diaries has been a fan favorite for its captivating storylines, dynamic characters, and creative take on the source material. By gradually introducing new characters and growing the already existing ones, the show has been able to keep viewers invested and engaged. So, if you're looking for an incredible show that many people love and can wholeheartedly recommend, watch The Vampire Diaries today!
