The Vampire Diaries is known for its supernatural drama and romance, but it's also known for its fashion choices. The show's characters have worn everything from the latest trends to the most outrageous outfits. Not all of their fashion choices have been practical. Here are some of the most impractical outfits worn by the characters in The Vampire Diaries, ranked from least to most impractical.
Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, is the main character of the show. In Season 1, Episode 19, Elena wears a beautiful blue prom dress. The dress is stunning, but it's not practical for a vampire-filled prom.
The long, flowing skirt is difficult to move in, and the strapless bodice leaves her vulnerable to attack. However, the dress does show off Elena's figure and adds to the romantic atmosphere of the episode.
Candice King portrays Caroline Forbes, famous for her lively attitude and passion for fashion. In one episode of Season 2, Caroline decides to wear her cheerleading outfit to school. Despite the outfit's charm, it's not very convenient for a school full of vampires.
Caroline’s short skirt and tight top make her an easy target for attacks, and even the pom-poms can be used against her. Nevertheless, the uniform highlights Caroline's athletic abilities and complements her cheerful character.
Katherine Pierce, played by Nina Dobrev, is Elena's doppelganger and an infamous vampire. In Season 2, Episode 1, Katherine wears a stunning red dress to a vampire gathering. The dress is beautiful, but it's not suitable for a vampire-filled event.
The dress shows off Katherine's seductive nature and adds to her mysterious persona. However, the long, flowing skirt is challenging to move in, and the off-the-shoulder bodice leaves her vulnerable to attack.
Bonnie Bennett, as portrayed by Kat Graham, is a strong witch and Elena’s closest friend. In the 22nd episode of the first season, Bonnie wears a witch costume to fight against vampires, but it is not a practical outfit for battle.
The flowing skirt and sleeves make it difficult for her to move. The outfit does, though, emphasize Bonnie's magical talents and contribute to her mystical image.
Ian Somerhalder's character, Damon Salvatore, has a mysterious and dangerous nature. In Season 6, Episode 18, Damon wears a medieval costume to embark on a time-traveling adventure. Although the outfit is appropriate for the era, it wouldn't make sense for a vampire living in contemporary times.
Damon’s heavy armor and long, flowing cape restrict his movement, and the sword is not an efficient weapon against modern-day arms. The costume also emphasizes Damon's enigmatic and melancholic personality, creating a more exciting and thrilling episode.
Although The Vampire Diaries is known for its fashion choices, not all of them are practical. From Elena's prom dress to Damon's medieval outfit, the characters have worn some outrageous and impractical outfits. While these outfits may not apply to a vampire-filled world, they add to the characters' romantic, bubbly, mysterious, and adventurous personas.
